July 22, 2010. The Truckee Meadows and Sierra Fire Protection Districts’ Board of Commissioners are requesting feedback from all residents in Washoe County. On Saturday, July 31, the two agencies will host the first in a series of community meetings that will conclude in December 2010. The purpose of the Fire District Community Forum series is to solicit citizen solutions for long-term staffing of a new fire station on the corner of Thomas Creek and Arrowcreek Parkway. The initial meeting will focus on how our fire departments function and the challenges being faced by the fire service nation-wide. The meeting, structured as an interactive dialogue between citizens and staff, will provide background information for residents and solicit their recommendations and ideas for staffing the future Arrowcreek Fire Station. Fire Service 101 Saturday, July 31 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Washoe County Chambers, 1001 E. 9th Street, Building A The new Arrowcreek Fire Station is funded by a $2.5 million Federal Emergency and Management Act grant though American Resource and Recovery funds. It will provide fire service to the areas of Arrowcreek, Galena, Mt. Rose and South West Reno. The fire station is currently completing a design review and construction will occur over an 8 month period. The grant requirement is to have the station completed within three years (by Sept. 2012), and provide regular and timely progress reports to FEMA. Construction could begin within one year with a possible completion date of June 2011. Citizens who cannot attend the meeting may submit comments by email to fire@washoecounty.us.
